NFT, Image Tracing, and Fake News

I find this idea extremely intriguing, not because of its NFT collection value but for image source tracing.

A lot of disinformation relies on reusing images on the internet. Similarly, NFT community is also trying to find a solution to fight against the fake ones.

If the NFT community managed to design a tool to verify the originality and authenticity of an image, then this same tool can be used to sign and verify all image as well.

Imagine this tool is built into all major browsers as some sort of standard. Now when any journalist/news agency/individual post an image, the tool automatically analyzes it. If it is original and new, it is then minted as an "NFT" to certify the originality. If the image is not original, it can be then pointed towards the original image "NFT".

All of the above process is automatic and integrated into the operating system/browser. So any average user can easily know where the image comes from.

This will have a profound implications in how we trace and battle fake news.
